Tzu Chi Elementary School

The Pillars of the Future – Trees of knowledge; Seeds of love

INTERNATIONAL MONTH:  The Tzu Chi Elementary school’s students celebrated the school’s first international month this past February. The focus was to expand the children’s understanding of this world, one continent, one country, and one city at a time. Children were learning about the history, culture, traditions, cities, geography, religion, food, and much more about each country they studied.

A large part of our Tzu Chi program is to enable the students to become global citizens. The elementary program has a goal that they understand the world around them. Knowledge is power and with this understanding, they are better equipped to demonstrate love and compassion to the world and those in need.

The following are the countries that were studied by each grade.

  • Transitional Kindergarten – Philippines
  • Kindergarten – Guatemala
  • 1st grade -Egypt
  • 2nd grade – Italy
  • 3rd grade- Japan
  • 4th and 5th grade – Tanzania

Tzu Chi Elementary School is pleased to announce that it has met the required criteria to be a fully accredited school by the regional accrediting organization, WASC, the western association of schools and colleges. The value of accreditation is that it validates the integrity of the school’s programs and fosters ongoing improvement to support student learning.

At the Walnut campus of Tzu Chi Elementary, we nurture and educate students in Kindergarten with a culture that actively models globalism and environmentalism. As we aspire to create well-rounded, bilingual and biliterate students fluent in English and Chinese, our faculty provides an exemplary bilingual learning environment as well as a thematic character education curriculum infused with respect, compassion, gratitude, and love. We plan to grow this school each year by adding another grade level until we reach a full school of Kindergarten through fifth grade. Furthermore, we maintain small class sizes in a diverse, inclusive, and caring community to ensure that our students receive the academic and emotional support they need to excel.

To complement our comprehensive curriculum that highlights caring for the earth and personal well-being, we serve freshly-prepared, nutritious meals each day. Also, we encourage interpersonal skills development through community service activities, which offer our students an abundance of opportunities to develop relationships with members of the local community, families, and friends while pursuing their education with us.

How a Global Citizen Begins

While we offer a superb academic curriculum and nurture positive character traits, our students also gain community service experience and are inspired to be of benefit to the world.
